The Research

Participants in Spirited Life: Selah agree to offer data on their experience so each practice can be tested and recommended as appropriate to clergy in the future. For participation in the research elements of Spirited Life: Selah, participants will be compensated as detailed below.

Surveys: All participants will be invited to complete 30-45 minute surveys at three time points during the study. Participants will receive $20 for each of the first two surveys, and $25 for the third.

Heart rate variability: Many participants will be invited to wear a heart rate monitor for 48 hours at two time points during the study. Participants will receive $25 for each submission of heart rate data.

Daily practice reporting: All participants will be invited to submit their daily practice via text message every day for 180 days.

In-depth interviews: Some participants will be invited to be interviewed at various time points throughout the study. Participants will receive $25 for each interview.

*Participants are paid via Duke University’s ClinCard system. Participants will be given a ClinCard (Visa card) and the Clergy Health Initiative will load funds to the card as particular study benchmarks are completed. Review the Spirited Life: Selah consent form.
